ROTARY CLUB OF PUTNEY - GUEST SPEAKER ONLINE RESOURCE

Useful information for guest speakers...

Our venue & finding us
Use the "our meeting venue" page on our website: address, map, public transport info. Our venue is fully wheelchair accessible.
How long to speak for?
We ask our guest speakers to prepare a talk that lasts around 15 minutes and to allow another 10 minutes for questions and answers.
Require anything special?
Assume nothing! Please let us know (via the website contact form) at least a week in advance if you need something. As our venue is small and we all sit around one table, it's not necessary to use projectors/screens - if you have a presentation, you can show it off your laptop/tablet screen.
What happens at a typical club meeting?
  • Part 1 - Business & Speaker - Cromwell Room, St Mary's Church - 7pm to 8pm
  • Meeting called to order
  • Visitors welcomed
  • Rotary business and announcements
  • Guest Speaker including Q&A
  • Final announcements
  • Part 2 - Informal meal & networking - The Rocket - 8pm onwards
  • Order meal and drinks at the bar (or via Wetherspoon app)
  • Reserved table/area for Rotary (normally Table 25)
  • Informal discussions over dinner and drinks
  • The club will cover the cost of a meal and drink for the guest speaker, the guest speaker should order their meal via the Treasurer or Secretary
Parking?
There is on-street parking on the Putney Embankment (a short walk away) which is free to use after 6:30pm. Please take careful note of parking restrictions and dropped kerbs to avoid fines. There is no parking available directly at the venue.
What do guest speakers sometimes get wrong?
  • Fail to turn up
  • Arrive late as they didn't plan the journey/route/parking
  • Speak for too long
  • Deliver a talk read word for word from notes
  • Hard sell of product/service/charity
  • Assume that speaking to our club will guarantee support/donation/purchase
  • Ask questions that are answered on this page!
What food and drink is offered at The Rocket?
You can view the following menus online:
How big will the audience be?
Our club meetings typically attract between 10 and 20 people.
When should I arrive and depart?
Many of our members will arrive from 6:45pm onwards... so you're welcome to arrive any time from 6:45pm onwards. If you have equipment to setup and test, it's best to get that out the way before the meeting starts at 7pm. After the meeting speakers are encouraged to have a meal and/or drink and enjoy networking with our members and guests at The Rocket.
