Help out at the Rotary Christmas Day lunch at Battersea Park

Christmas Day Party for the Elderly

The Rotary Club of Battersea Park is again this year asking if you could spare a few hours, or the whole day, on Christmas Day (and on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day too, if possible) to help us with our Rotary Christmas Day Lunch & Tea Party for the Elderly. Whilst the event is organised by the Rotary Club of Battersea Park, we depend very much on the help and support of others who give their time to make the occasion enjoyable for our guests. You may be interested to know that we receive a grant of £1000 from Wandsworth Council and the remaining £15,000 needed to run the event is raised by donations from the public.

The outline programme for the Christmas Day Party is as follows:
Christmas Eve:
9.30 – 2.00pm Set tables (this can take ages), prepare for Christmas Day.
Lunch is provided when all the work has been completed!
Christmas Day
ALL DAY Helping and hosting the guests
9.00 -12.30 Collect guests from their homes. Meet 'n Greet
10.30 -12.30 Serving Morning Coffee and preparing the Lunch
12.30 - 2.30 Serve Christmas Lunch and clearing away
2.30 - 3.30 Helpers Lunch followed by Washing-up!
2.30 - 4.00 Cups of tea and entertainment, dancing, Bingo.
4.30 - 5.00 Escorting guests to their buses and taking them home again.
5.00 onwards Clearing-up and tiding the marquee and kitchens

Boxing Day 11.00am Finish Clearing – Lunch at the Pub

Don’t forget, on Christmas Day we need just as much help in the afternoon as we do in the morning, so if you can spare a few hours on Christmas afternoon it would be greatly appreciated.

The theme of the Christmas Events Marquee in Battersea Park is “A Russian Winter” with lots of snow, so it really will be a magical Christmassy venue for the party. If you are coming by car, please remember to use the Chelsea Bridge entrance to the Park.

Notes to Editors

Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 32,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Members carry out this work in their community and/or overseas by giving their time and their expertise.

A Rotary Club is open to men and women who are business, professional or community leaders who want to use their experience for the benefit of others. Paul Harris formed the world's first service club in Chicago on 23rd February 1905. The name Rotary is derived from the early practice of rotating meetings among members' offices.
